Wednesday, September 10, 2008 More indigenous programs lined up for funding
MORE projects focusing on the preservation of indigenous arts and cultures in Benguet await the approval for funding from the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Lined up for funding releases include: research and documentation of the ritual blankets of the Benguet Kankanaeys, and the Kabuyao Sto. Tomas (Tuba) and Tinongdan (Itogon) Schools of Living Traditions on Performing Arts.
The NCCA last year funded about six projects for cultural preservation in the different towns of the province.
The Provincial Board passed a resolution of gratitude for the NCCA and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) for the approval of these projects, saying these programs would boost the development, promotion, and preservation of the indigenous cultures in the province.
Leading these programs is the Office of Provincial Tourism. Among the other lined up projects for evaluation include the establishment of schools of living traditions on the Kapangan Kankanaey performing arts on native dances, bamboo craft in Tuba, and the Ibaloi Kankanaey of Atok. (JC)
