THE significance of research and its dissemination will once again be underscored in Saint Louis University (SLU) as it holds the Research and Inventions Week from September 22 to 27.
This event highlights the University's commitment to research as one of its flagship programs. Initiated last year, it aims to raise awareness, interest and involvement among the staff and students on research and innovation.
Although the celebration was set for a week, the activities are actually spread out throughout the month. Set at the different colleges, these activities include paper and poster presentations, product displays, training-seminars, and an open house, among others (the complete list of activities is available at the SLU website: http://www.slu.edu.ph).
The College of Nursing kicked off this year's celebration with its 10th Regional Nursing Research Congress at the Burgos gymnasium last September 9, which was participated in by nursing staff and students from various schools in northern Luzon. The Congress was highlighted by the presentations of two US-based nurse-researchers.
A weeklong research exhibition and contest was launched by the College of Engineering and Architecture last September 15, showcasing an array of exciting student- research outputs and inventions.
Winning exhibits will be displayed later at the University-wide exhibit at Diego Silang building lobby on September 22 to 27.
For its part, the College of Accountancy and Commerce, together with the Asian Institute of Management, will conduct a series of road-show presentations on the findings of the state of competitiveness of key cities in northern Luzon that include Baguio, Laoag, San Fernando (La Union) and Dagupan.
Baguio City's state of competitiveness will be presented on September 22 Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Rm. C-013 of the CCA building.
An open house activity will be held at the College of Human Sciences Psychology Laboratory on September 22 to 27 as well as in the CNS-Natural Sciences Research Unit on September 22 to 24.
Together with these are research presentations featuring faculty and student works as well as research seminars tackling various themes.
Parallel research presentations are likewise organized by the College of Education (September 27), the College of Information and Computing Sciences (September 19 and 20), and the College of Medicine (September 26).
The whole event is spearheaded by the Research, Extension and Publications Office (Repo) which coordinates the various activities for the smooth celebration of the University's Research and Inventions Week.
