DA Regional Technical Director Pedro Jerry Baliang said part of the food security program implemented by the agency is the enhancement of the fishery and livestock industry in the region.
Under the Programang Agrikultura Para sa Masa program by the government, the DA spearheads the distribution of rice and vegetable seeds subsidy to identified beneficiaries in various provinces in the region.
Ranged chickens, ducks, goats, and fingerlings were distributed to areas where these livestock animals could thrive.
DA Regional Executive Director Cesar Rodriguez said the livestock procured were distributed to beneficiaries for multiplication.
The procurement of ranged chickens is preferred over the hybrid ones because of the formers' capacity to look for their own food.
In Abra, 303 villages benefited from the distribution of the ranged chicken varieties, in addition to the vegetable seeds given to the beneficiaries.
Ifugao meanwhile benefited from the distribution of the tilapia and jojo fingerlings for reproduction. (JC)
