THE City Council has approved a resolution requesting Baguio Representative Mauricio Domogan to donate P8 million for the purchase of a disaster rescue vehicle for the city's use during calamities.
Councilor Erdolfo Balajadia said the rescue vehicle similar to the one being used by the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) would help in the mobility requirements of the City Disaster Coordinating Council in undertaking rescue and retrieval operations during typhoons, earthquakes, accidents and other emergency situations.
The rescue vehicle, according to Balajadia, "is a total and ultimate unit that can cope with all types of disasters."
He said acquiring such a vehicle would make Baguio the first and only local government unit to use sophisticated rescue equipment in the country.
"The acquisition of the said rescue vehicle will not only serve Baguio City but can also serve its neighboring municipalities including the entire Cordilleras as the same is a mobile rescue unit which could be moved easily to other places where it would be urgently needed for rescue purposes," Balajadia noted.
The resolution after approval by Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. will be forwarded to Domogan for action.
