Monday, October 06, 2008 X Gen, Budget Savers retains 1-2 standing
X GENERATION and Budget Savers retained their 1-2 positions and erstwhile third Pretty Pink Panthers suffered a setback in the ongoing International Mixed Bowling League at the Puyat Sports Center.
Pack leader X Gen salvaged a 6-1 win in the last frame and still managed to eke a more respectable 8-16 defeat to Chamba courtesy of Albert Buting averaged 179 pinfalls scratch beating Rolly de Guzman to lead the upset conscious Chamba into beating the league's top team.
X Generation managed to win just a game each in the first two games, but took things in stride in the final round to retain the top spot with 229 won points.
On another hot night and on the verge of claiming the high average lead, teener Nikko Go had lines of 222, 199 and 207 to win all his games against an absent Jimmy Uy as defending champion Gerco trounced Budget Savers, 19-5.
It was a battle of the teens from the same team in the first game as Go was outpaced by Cheeno Loy, his senior by a year, who played 238 to eke a 2-1 win over Nanding Albino.
Tony Santos and Doris Santiago edged Leo Abubo and Jun Reyes, 2-1, while Mike Casuga ended with a game high 212 to win a game against high average lady bowler Racquel Abubo, who is on her way to pad her lead anew with a 181 average.
The Sabers slowed down for a 217.5 won points, a bigger deficit on the top ranked X Gen, but also allows two other teams to move closer when the points are divided as the first round ends.
The Panthers slid to sixth spot with 204.5 won points after a 9-15 loss to the amazingly complete Kiwanis.
Chamba retained the seventh spot with 203.5 won points.
But the lead is smaller now for X Gen as the scores are halved going into the second round.
The leader has 114.5 won points, followed by Budget Savers with 108.75. Third-ranked Cross Stitch has 196.25, just half off the defending champion Gerco.
Fifth ranked Palm Grove has 104.25, while the Panthers and Chamba are close to each other with 102.25 and 101.75 won points, respectively.
Mixed Nuts took the last game 5-2 and a 56- pinfall lead to overhaul a two game deficit to win 14-10 against Moog. Leah Torres led the Nuts by sweeping Lala Cabradilla as the team amassed 196 points or 98 points when games resume next week.
Mixed Nuts, however, is tied with former champion Liberty which broke the high series scratch by 90 pinfalls to win 19-5 against a hapless Top 40.
The bottom six has Kiwanis on top with 169 points (84.5), Top 40 with 164 (84), Moog with 154 (77), Khatib with 152 (76), Wild Cards which has 145 (72.5) and Mr. Donut at the cellar with 120 won points or 60. (Roderick Osis)
