Village bans parking on streets to stop crime

A BARANGAY in La Trinidad has banned vehicle parking on its roads to avoid use of these as hiding places for criminals.

Barangay Betag passed an ordinance prohibiting the use of barangay roads and other service streets built or improved with the use of government funds.

The village council claimed illegally parked vehicles often serve as hiding places for snatchers and hold-uppers while waiting for their victims, particularly at night.

Betag is one of the villages of La Trinidad, which is located just along the main highway.

Using barangay roads as stacking area of construction materials and areas of repair for damaged vehicles is also prohibited. Penalties for violators range from P500 to P1000.

Regulating barangay roads, the council said, would also ensure ease of passage to and from the village especially in times of emergency.

The measure also aims to provide easement for the community and other delivery vehicles with the barangay.

Use of barangay roads as parking areas for vehicles is not allowed by the Land Transportation Office. (JC)
