Thursday, October 16, 2008 Small businesses rising, says DTI
MANY Filipinos may find it hard getting employment in the country but instead of seeking jobs abroad, they opted to establish businesses here.
In fact, many micro enterprises have progressed into medium scale enterprises, over the past few years, said Trade Public Information Officer Art Tibaldo.
In a briefing concerning the celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month, Tibaldo said marketing and promotion of products sold by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) proved useful in growth of SMEs.
For those planning to put up their own businesses but are not aware of the particulars in setting up and running a business, Trade Consumer Welfare Division chief Sammy Gallardo said they also advise the would-be businessmen to first comply with local government regulations and undergo trainings on the current developments in managing businesses.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) also suggested that beginners should first know, which line of business they are familiar with, then the business should be legitimate, hence permits should be obtained and obligations paid and research should be done to determine the kind of clients the business will cater to.
Ninety-eight percent of businesses in the country are SMEs, said Gallardo. (RO)
