Saturday, October 18, 2008 SM promotes child-friendly malls this month
THIS October, SM Supermalls takes the lead in celebrating the National Children's Month through the launch of nationwide activities that would promote and protect a child's rights, as well as ensure their safety and convenience inside the Mall.
SM City Baguio, together with the SM Supermalls Children's Council, SM Breastfeeding Committee, United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Council for Welfare of Children (CWC), will conduct a re-orientation program, entitled A Kid'SMall: Caring for Children, for SM Mall employees, tenants, and agency personnel on October 21.
In addition to training seminars, SM City Baguio has also incorporated child-friendly facilities that would assure families of a safe and fun "malling" experience.
"Kiddie" waterless urinals and baby diaper changers have been installed inside the Mall's comfort rooms. Likewise, buzzers and chimes can be found near comfort rooms, for the handicapped or children requiring assistance. Protective railings and child-friendly reminders have also been installed at Mall escalators.
Selected public payphones are made accessible. Lower drinking fountains and top quality children's high chairs are also available at the SM Foodcourt for a secure and convenient dining experience. Similarly, kiddie carts are made available for toddlers to make malling both convenient and enjoyable for the whole family.
The Mall also offers various specialized children's shops and services, such as infant boutiques, shops offering a variety of children's books, and numerous "edutainment" play centers, which create a fun and learning environment for children of all ages.
Watch "Oh Really" with Alah as she features child achievers on October 21 live at SM City Baguio. It's "One World Costume Kids Parade" for the children as they display their unique costumes in celebration of the United Nations Day on October 24 at SM City.
There's nothing as thrilling as trick or treat for kids this Halloween dressing up as superheroes, super villain and side kick costumes, and hoping to get the best fantastic superhero Halloween costume as SM City Baguio celebrates Happy Halloween on October 31.
However, aside from just providing children with fun and entertainment, the SM Supermalls also looks out for a child's future and educational welfare through the many successful projects of the SM Foundation.
The SM College Scholarship program has produced more than 800 college graduates in the fields of engineering, computer and information technology, accounting and the academe.
More than 15 SM schoolhouses have also been donated in addition to the 2.5-million books distributed to 10,000 reading centers, public schools and barangay libraries nationwide.
In view of the children's month, the SM Foundation together with SM Supermalls will be spearheading the "Make a Child Happy" project, which aims to bring joy to more than 3,000 children across all SM Malls nationwide. This is done in conjunction with the Department of Health, which will conduct an orientation on proper hygiene and oral care as well as give free vitamins to the kids.
Project partner Jollibee also added fun and joy with food and more treats from their mascot.
The SM Supermalls also allow their generous patrons to "Share Their Extras" through SM Foundation's annual projects in the Malls.
