Saturday, October 18, 2008 Milo Best regional championship opens
SAINT Louis University (SLU) will have its hand full when they face deadly opponents Saturday.
The 23rd season of the Milo-sponsored Best Center Small Basketeers of the Philippines (SBP)-Passerelle tournaments unfurls October 18 and 19 at the Eastern College Gym in Baguio City for the Luzon regional championships.
Grade school hoopsters from Saint John Cathedral School, International School of Better Beginnings, SLU Laboratory Grade School and Don Bosco Academy Pampanga will vie for the Best Center SBP Luzon title.
SLU-Laboratory Elementary School dumped Our Lady of Mount Carmel Montessori to bag the championship in the small basketeers division 51-25 in the Baguio leg of the Milo BEST tournament recently held.
SLU will rely on the steady plays of Gabriel Capitly and Vince de Castro for them to win the circuit championships.
On the high school level, junior cagers from Divine Word College of Dagupan, Maryhill Academy, SLU Laboratory High School and Don Bosco Academy Pampanga will wage their own battles for the Passerelle Luzon trophy.
SLU-Boys High School disposed erstwhile rival and defending champion Baguio City National High School for the Passerelle Division, 92-48, in their championship duel held a week ago.
The winners of the regional championships will represent Luzon and join other champions from the National Capital Region, Visayas and Mindanao for the SBP-Passerelle national finals. (Roderick Osis)
