FORMER Baguio Central University stalwart Dominique Pomar has made it to the elite list of international referees accredited by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).
Pomar was one of the four recommended for international referee status by the Samahang Basketbolista ng Pilipinas for making the grade after a two-day clinic conducted by Fiba sports director Lubomir Kotleba recently.
Two others have taken their refresher course who were also recommended by the SBP
"The referee development is a very critical part of the SBP plans and programs. Our vision is to see the Filipino basketball referee officiating a game in the Olympics some day," said SBP head Noli Eala.
The SBP has now nine accredited referees.
Pomar was a stalwart of the BCU Eagles way back in 1995 when it pulled an upset against the SLU Navigators for their third place battle.
He played until the late 90s and later joined the Basketball Referees Organization of Northern Philippines, Inc. (Bronphil Inc.)
He is one of the 30 participants nationwide of which four were recognized, said Bronphil Inc. president Jun Rimando.
Rimando said Pomar took his oath this week in Manila.
