Sunday, December 21, 2008 Benguet wants autonomy subjects explained
THE Provincial Board (PB) of Benguet wants more explanation on moves for the inclusion of the subject of autonomy in discussions at the elementary level.
Members of the legislative body asked the Regional Development Council (RDC) to explain why it included elementary pupils and secondary students in the information and education campaign for autonomy.
National Economic Development Authority (Neda) Regional Director and RDC chairman Juan Ngalob was invited to discuss reasons for the move.
The RDC and the Department of Education (DepEd) entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the inclusion of autonomy issues in subjects in the elementary and high school levels.
The DepEd was tasked to prepare lesson guides for the teachings of Cordillera autonomy to grades 4, 5, and 6 and high school pupil in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
This is part of the moves the RDC initiated to increase the awareness of the public on the region's quest for self-governance.
The board approved on first reading a resolution opposing the MOA entered between the RDC and the DepEd. (JC)
