Sunday, December 21, 2008 Wal's kin edgy over case resolution By Ernie N. Olson Jr.
THE family of slain student Jude Wal II said they are worried about the possible resolution of the murder complaint filed against those allegedly involved in the case.
It has been over two months since they filed the complaint before the Baguio City Prosecutor's Office (BCPO), but Wal's family wonders why no resolution has yet been issued by Assistant Prosecutor Margarita Manalo.
"The gunman and his supposed guide have already confessed to the crime and have even named their (alleged) mastermind. But still we do not know why nothing has become of the complaint until now," said Jude Wal Sr., the victim's father.
The self-confessed gunman and guide were named Ernesto Calub Genitiano alias Marcy and Marcelino Mendoza alias Bondying.
Both suspects also identified their alleged mastermind in sworn statements submitted to the City Prosecutor's Office as Architect Joseph Marrero.
Earlier this month, Genitiano told lawyer Mary Inglay Fokno that he was visited in his safe house by two of his relatives, who were reportedly offered P3-million to convince him to recant on his earlier statement.
He said his relatives were accompanied by an unidentified lawyer at the time.
After that visit, Fokno also filed an urgent motion for the immediate resolution of the complaint before the City Prosecutor's Office.
In her motion, she stated "Premises considered, a prima facie case having been established against all respondents, and there being no valid reason to delay the filing of the information for this case, it is earnestly moved by respondent-movants the above-captioned case be resolved and the resulting information there from be filed without any further delay (to the court)."
Wal II was killed when he was shot while driving his younger brother to school last January 25.
