Monday, December 22, 2008 Bonnex crowned LNK top boxers
BONIFACIO Annex romped off with 17 gold, 17, silver and 27 bronze medals to bag the overall championship in the Linggo ng Kabataan Boxing Tournament at the Malcolm Square last week.
Bonnex bagged gold in the 36 kilograms (kgs) won by Winnie Alberick, 38 kgs courtesy of Chester Pangod, Reynaldo Yatar in the 42 kgs, Rustom Gomisa in the 46 kilograms, Richard Sungay in 48 kgs and the 51 kgs from Vener Guay in the 13 to 15-year-old category.
In the 15 to 17-year-old category, Noel Pecking won in the 44 kgs while Oliver Yap-ingew also won in the 48 kgs, and Jeremy Bastian won in the 65-kg division.
Bonnex also dominated the female category winning all weight classes led by Norma Gulayan (40 kgs), Miaca Vendiola (42 kgs), Renalyn Tubao (46 kgs), Jenny Subangue (48 kgs), Marible Natividad (50 kgs), Charlene Cawed (52 kgs), Michelle Dupap-ing (54 kgs) and Judy Ann Doria (57 kgs).
San Vicente came in second with a six gold, 17 silver, and three bronze medals while Roxas pulled four gold, five silver, and eight bronze medals.
Pinsao closed in third with a three gold and one bronze finish, while BCNHS had two gold on top of four silver and three bronze medals and Fil-Chinese School had two gold medals.
Don Mariano Marcos and Sto. Tomas pulled one gold each with the former grabbing two more silver and two bronze medals.
Daryl Cheng of Fil-Chinese School took the best boxer plum in the 10 to 12-year-old division together Winnie Alberick (13 to 15 years old), Erickson Maymaya of Roxas Annex (15 to 17 years old), and Frederick Almadrones from BCNHS (18-above).
Maribel Natividad and Michelle Dupap-ing from Bonifacio Annex were awarded the best female boxer plum.
About 12 schools fought for boxing supremacy in the elementary and high school division sponsored by the city's Sangguniang Kabataan federation. (R.Osis/EO)
