Eleven of the affected structures were totally damaged and the other two structures were only partially affected by the fire.

Among those who extended assistance to the 25 families displaced by the fire include the Benguet Provincial Government, Philippine National Red Cross, the Buguias Municipal Government, Buguias Fire Station, Buguias Police Station, Mankayan Fire Station, Lepanto Fire Station, the Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco) and other private and religious groups.

As of Monday, the construction of temporary shelter for the victims had started and assistance from various kind-hearted individuals and groups had been given out.

The assistance came in the form of money, construction materials, food items, clothing and other necessities.

It was learned that the area affected by the fire was the same area burned sometime in 1978 where 11 structures were also affected.

The barangay council headed by Roberto Camilo cited the overwhelming support and assistance from individuals and groups in order for the victims to recover from the biggest fire ever to hit the town.

Camilo said it will be the Almighty who will shower blessings to those who provided them with support. (DAS)
