Tuesday, December 23, 2008 Upgrade of Asin plants proposed
THE Czech team that recently inspected city-owned Asin mini hydro power plants has recommended an equipment upgrade to maximize production of the facility.
City Administrator Peter Fianza said that was the initial assessment issued by the team based on the ocular inspection they conducted although the final report on the facility's operations will be submitted at the end of the year.
Fianza said the Czech team is assessing the reports they have submitted as part of the feasibility study the group is doing.
The group is assessing documents like reports on past studies on the power plants, production reports and current operation data.
The Czech team was in Baguio late November and left early this month. Results of the study will be used to decide whether privatization should be pursued or the City Government should have a team manage it.
The study was funded by the Czech Republic through a development assistance fund of P1.3 million.
Records of the management committee showed that in 2007, the power plants generated a net of 4.23-million kilowatt hours (kWh), which translated to around a gross income of P19 million for Baguio. (Rimaliza Opiña)
