Calinao: Put a little holiday in your heart
By Nick Prill Calinao
Free and Easy

PLAYING the music over 99.9 DZWR Country FM early this week, a Christmas Carol magnified the spirit of the season over the airwaves.

A song by LeAnn Rhymes, the Christmas single shared the meaning of Christmas in a bouncy and lively note.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

"Put a Little Holiday in Your Heart," is definitely more than just a tune to sway to, it has this distinct characteristic of imparting "deep meaning" coupled with a rhythm, which is "light and bubbly."

"Feel the cold wind blowing-winter's coming on
'Tis the season, so they say
If you need help believing 'cause your spirit ain't too strong
Hold my hand-we'll push that cloud away"

Simply worded, the first stanza of the song focuses on the importance and warmth of a true friend who is ever-ready to share a helping hand.

A friend ready to strengthen the "spirits" and confidence of someone who is going through "cloudy days" in life.

An aspect of Christmas, which I believe must be practiced all year round.

Oh, how I wish that all public servants or officials would sincerely be there with genuine helping hands to aide push-away "clouds," which make the lives of constituents gloomy.

"Put a little holiday in your heart
It'll put a little shuffle in your step
Give you a song that you can sing
With a melody you can't forget
And if you wanna join in a little harmony
To keep the world from tearin' apart
Well you know where to look
Yeah-you gotta put a little holiday in your heart"
Simply put, when in doubt on how to express the "spirit of Christmas," all that has to be done is to "put a little holiday in your heart."

This may be done by enhancing the atmosphere of unity and oneness.

Oh, how I wish that genuine unity will be established in the country. An encompassing unity protected, promoted, and cherished by everyone... from those within the echelons of power... all the way to the street-sweepers and farm dwellers.

"There's a man on the corner who doesn't have a name
People pass and turn their heads away
But to share a simple kindness would set your heart aflame
And you'll get more than you'll ever give away"

One need not look far to be able to grasp what it's like to see a man, beggar, or mendicant at a corner of a downtown sidewalk. Many passers-by would rather turn their heads and look away, not realizing that it would actually be easier and "heart-fulfilling" to share a little kindness, spare a little food, or give some clothing to the "hunger-stricken" who braves the "Siberian" December weather all by himself with but a shirt, a sack, a worn-out jacket, or a make-shift blanket on his back.

"It starts with you, it starts with me
That ain't no stranger, he's family and it don't matter if we agree
It all comes down to love"
A hundred percent and more, I fully agree with the LeAnn Rhymes single. The true "Spirit of Christmas" starts with you...and me... and it al boils down to... love.
Oh, how I wish that all politicians, leaders, and public servants would genuinely share the essence of the season.. That these "honorables" would truthfully think of their constituents who sleep on sidewalks, beg for food, and endlessly hope for better qualities of life in a country torn by a "culture of corruption."

"To keep the world from tearin' apart
Well you know where to look
Yeah-you gotta put a little holiday in your heart"
This season of hope, sharing, and love...perhaps it is time for each and everyone of us, especially the "honorables" in public service and politics to inwardly direct either of the following questions: "Do I truly deserve to celebrate Christmas?" ...or... "Should I be ashamed of myself for my 'unchristian' ways, and for being a hypocrite?"

As the LeAnn Rhymes Christmas song clearly imparts..."you know where to look..." and 'you gotta put a little holiday in your heart." Merry Christmas!!!
