Baguio to Aritao road opened

FARMERS in Benguet expect faster delivery of their produce to other parts in the region with the opening of the Baguio Aritao Road (Barip), which is expected to further reduce the travel time from the province and the city towards the rest of the Cordillera and Regions 1 and 2.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo last Wednesday inaugurated the 68.128-kilometer road.

The Barip has a total project cost amounting P1.7 billion, and is said to cut the travel time from Baguio to other regions.

The project, the President said, would cut the travel time from Baguio to Banaue by half.

Because the road links the two tourism destinations, Arroyo wants the road to be called Baguio-Banaue Road.

With the road improvement, the travel time from Baguio to Aritao, which is in Nueva Vizcaya will be shortened from seven hours to 2.75 hours. (JC)
