Ecaranum wins gold in TKD Open By Lynde Salgados
INDEED, taekwondo has not grown tired of bringing honors to the city of Cagayan de Oro and the province of Misamis Oriental.
In the just-held 25th National Taekwondo Championships which gathered the country's top young jins, 12-year-old Marsha Mae Ecaranum proved that she's not only good for the Batang Pinoy competitions when she led the Doo Jang Club's conquest of one gold, 3 silvers and 3 bronzes at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The hard-kicking Ecaranum of Montessori de Oro is a perennial gold medal performer in the annual Batang Pinoy Meet for athletes aged 12 years and below.
Ecaranum's title win in the National Open is a manifestation that she's now ripe for the peaking.
Right after wearing her third Batang Pinoy crown in Bacolod City, Ecaranum looked confident from every inch as she then shared her ambition of competing one day in the US Open and Korea Open.
Her latest triumph in Manila could be a surer step that will lead her to another big step.
"That's very true. Marsha's been dreaming to show wares in the United States or in Korea Open because of their respectability as the world's prestigious events," said coach Christopher Fontanosa.
Some of Fontanosa's reliable wards managed just a silver or a bronze, while the rest have to be contented of reaching the quarterfinals.
"But we're proud of them because they really tried their best against the members of the Philippine Junior Team," even citing the challenging match of Ernesto Mendoza, now studying at University of Sto. Tomas in Manila, with RP's junior sensation Donald Giesler in the finals.
Among the local jins who deserve the accolades were Kathleen Kaye Roble (Corpus Christi), Alcer Lozada (Butuan), Mar Gayao, Marykris Dalen, Erika Edrolin (Pilgrim Christian College), Rhoda Jenny Edyesca (Xavier University) and Anthony Passion of International School. |
