Court drops case vs embalmer
AFTER his case lagged in court for several years, an embalmer accused of molesting a dead child had the charges dropped after his accusers failed to show up.
The accused Romeo Pioquinto said he knew beforehand that he will be vindicated and became thankful when the court cleared him of charges.
"Wala kaayo ko malipay kay nasira na ang reputation nang aking pamilya sa ginawa nila ug grabe ang pagbira-bira sa ako sa una sa radyo (I was so thankful that I was acquitted but I was not that happy because my family's reputation was damaged and I was bombarded by radio before)," he said.
It can be recalled that Pioquinto was reported to have molested the remains of a nine-year old girl delivered to the Somo Funeral Parlor on the morning of Aug. 4, 1996.
The victim supposedly died of dengue fever. His co-embalmer Ricardo Pinga identified him as the molester and he stood as witness against him.
Pioquinto denied the charges and claimed that Pinga twisted the details of the case.
"Si Pinga man ang naghilabot sa bata dili man ako...siya akong nakit-an nga iyang gi-finger ang patay nga bata (It's Pinga who raped the child and not me...I saw him finger the kid)," Pioquinto added.
He alleged that he was in barangay Bonbon picking a dead body when the incident happened.
