City sports gears toward improvement
By Lynde Salgados

THE policy-making body of Team CDO has taken concrete action in solidifying the city's thrust to upgrade local sports development.

In a recent meeting with the so-called commissioners of Team CDO, city sports chief councilor Jose Benjamin Benaldo agreed that something must be done to speed up whatever positive results that can be taken out in restructuring the city sports' whole framework and policy.

First to be undertaken is the holding of a workshop among the commissioners for them to present their respective inputs relevant to making the local sports body as one big functional and productive unit.

"This is going to be a dream come true for all of us who love sports development. Realizing this goal will make the restructured program of the city sports as historical," said swimming guru Arlito Rivera who was joined by lawyer Allan Abellanosa of football, Chris Fontanosa of taekwondo and City Information Officer (CIO) Erwin Culanag, among others, during Thursday's sports gathering at the City Conference room.

Despite of his absence, Benaldo has already given his go-signal for the city sports commissioners to organize the workshop-seminar the soonest possible.

"Early next week kinahanglan nga makasugod na `ta aron maka take-off dayon ang programa. We have to double-time our effort to come up with a concrete action nga walay langay-langay," Rivera, said.

Benaldo also made the right move when he considered the retention of Asset otherwise known as Advance Scientific Skills Efficiency Training, which caters to the interest of several sports disciplines since 12 years ago.

City mayor Vicente Y. Emano had said earlier there's no need to incorporate the political-sounding acronym Emaanos (Enhance Management of Athletic Activities and Nurturing Olympic Sports) to promote sports development in the locality.
"Benjo was able to see the logic of it. So, as of now it is still the name Asset that will be nurtured by the City Sports Development Council," Rivera, said.
Right after the meeting, Benaldo left for Manila to attend to an important appointment upon the order of the city mayor.

"But with the right system to follow, makalihok na kita with or without his presence. Ang importante nga kaayohan sa tanan atong tumong," was Rivera's charming remarks.
