Mayor considers PaDayon revamp anew By Rubelyn Yap
FOR the nth time, Mayor Vicente Emano announced plans of a major revamp within the PaDayon Pilipino party ranks.
During last Monday's flag raising ceremony, Mayor Emano said the revamp had nothing to do with the spate of scandals that rocked the City Council in the past few days.
"I am almost decided to redo the party. I have been thinking about it for months now," he told Sun.Star in an interview.
Emano was vague as to when the revamp would take place as well as the people he would enlist for the 2004 elections. "Let is not talk about politics. It is very early to talk about it," Emano said.
The PaDayon Pilipino provincial party is said to be in shambles following the rivalry between Vice Gov. Miguel de Jesus and Misamis Oriental Gov. Antonio Calingin.
The rivalry came about after de Jesus decided to run for governor in next year's elections.
In Cagayan de Oro, rumors continue to fly on the scandal involving a councilor who allegedly impregnated one City Hospital employee.
The council's reputation was further marred with the decision by the Ombudsman to revise sexual harassment charges against Vice-Mayor John Elizaga to acts of lasciviousness.
Meanwhile, reactions were mixed among councilors at Emano's announcement.
Councilor Michelle Tagarda said it is the mayor's absolute prerogative to do what he deems right for the party.
"He knows what ever is the best for the party. He is in the best position to know it being the head and founder of the party," she said.
She said she is confident Emano's decisions would redound to the betterment of the party as a whole and the welfare of the city residents in general.
Elizaga declined to comment while Councilor Mary Anne Enteria said Emano being the founder of the party knows what's best for PaDayon.
For their part, Cagayan de Oro Rep. Constantino Jaraula and Association of Barangay Council president and Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya both voiced support for Emano's planned revamp.
"My loyalty always remains with the judgement and the direction of Mayor Dongkoy," he said.
