Balingasag faces Gingoog today
By Lynde Salgados

EAST leaders Gingoog Luckish and Balingasag will go to each other's throat when the 2003 Misamis Oriental Basketball League goes back this afternoon to Balingasag gym.

Fellow winless Lagonglong Sapong Spring and Salay Skyhawks will lock up horns in the opener set at 1:30 pm.

Both hurdling their opening matches in the MOBL Summer Break Launching dubbed as "Gov. Antonio Calingin Cup," the Luckish of team manager Reuben Maglangit expects an uphill bout before the hostile crowd whose all-out support to the homeground squad has catapulted Balingasag to a surprise runner-up finish behind defending champion Claveria Cowboys in last year's inaugural showing of the fledgling league.

"Their (Balingasag) crowd is a big factor. I think the biggest and the loudest ever equalled only by El Salvador fans basing from last year's experience," said MOBL commissioner Boboy Sabal.

Small but terrible Felix Efondo and the wiry Bryan Sabugaa are deemed to give Gingoog a hard time on the floor along with Roy Macabodbod, Roland Asis, Aljo Agujar, Marvin Macas, Macrovino Vega, Teofano Achas, Tating Ranara, Elde Gardones and Prisco Bonghanoy.

The Luckish, on the other hand, has the exciting Eloi Dayoc and the spirited Nambatac brothers (Mark, Allan and Allen) to spark its frontlines.

Completing Gingoog's roster are Dodong Barro, Anthony Malimas, Dodong Bacasmot, Albert Silmaro, Jerome Bongalon, Ryan Apdian, Edoy Doinog, Edward Acejo, Mark Anthony Uayan, Dodong Lague and Jongjong Pontillas.

Tagged as a strong team in its starting five, Salay Skyhawks will rely on the explosive troika of Ramil Bayotas, Jay Rafisura and Rio Salva¤a in their quest to finally barge in the win circle.

"Kon naa lay sakto nga relibo, dili mabasta-basta ang Salay," the league's scheduling committee chairman Dindo Escobido told Sun.Star. (If they have only reliable stringers, Salay is going to be a force to reckon with.)
