SSS-Normin to implement own manual teller system

THE Social Security System (SSS) Cagayan de Oro Branch will implement starting Monday the new manual Tellering System where payments over the counter and through mails will be accepted from members in the region.

According to lawyer Josefina M. Olan, head of SSS Cagayan de Oro cluster, this new policy was approved by SSS President and CEO Corazon S. de la Paz last year.

The system is up for implementation in selected branches nationwide in response to the strong clamor of the members in the provinces for a convenient and accessible payment facility other than the banks.

Previously, all SSS payments in the provinces are remitted only through authorized collecting banks.

She said SSS Hub Branches in Davao, Cebu and Bacolod have implemented the tellering system earlier. The SSS Zamboanga branch will also implement the system on May 12.

SSS members especially the self-employed and voluntary members have complained to the SSS management about the lack of an alternative payment facility to remit contributions and loan repayments.

Back then, local bank branches had been very selective and discriminating in the acceptance of SSS payments.

Directly

Olan said the Manual Tellering System is a major policy initiative of the SSS in keeping with its vision to provide quality service to its members.

"It is long overdue as membership in the provinces has grown much bigger and banks could no longer cope with the volume of payments," he said.

He said its implementation is also a triumph of the members's persistent advocacy and pressure on SSS management.

Per the record of SSS Cagayan de Oro, majority of the estimated 8,874 registered employers and 88,243 self-employed members will be directly benefited by the tellering system in the city.

Members in the nearby cities and towns may also opt to pay directly to the SSS and enjoy its benefits.

The Manual Tellering System will result to faster posting of the contributions of self-employed members and employers.

As conceptualized, all payments received for the day will be transmitted electronically or online to the main office for processing and posting at the end of the day or at most after two days.

Quarterly

Payments received through the banks are posted normally not earlier than six months because of the rather circuitous system of transmittal and reconciliation.

By July this year, the Tellering System will be replaced by an automated system upon the acquisition of the computer hardware.

The employees and officials of SSS Cagayan de Oro are appealing for their members's full support and cooperation to ensure the smooth implementation of the tellering system.

Members paying their contributions, salary or housing loan amortizations are advised to use the correct SSS number, correct contribution bracket and genuine money to avoid delay in the acceptance of their payments.

Olan further advised members to pay their contributions quarterly or during regular days and not during deadline week, the 1st to the 5th of the month in order to avoid long lines and other hassles.

By paying during regular days, SSS Cagayan de Oro office guarantees their members that the payment process will be problem-free.
