By Louie Oranda

BISLIG -- Members of the New People's Army (NPA) launched a new wave of attcks in the Caraga Region.

Last Wednesday afternoon, the NPA rebels killed three security guards at a nursery plant in Picop Resource Inc. (PRI) at Road 7, Kilometer 8 Barangay Tabaon this city.

Authorities have yet to determine the number of armed men who entered the administration building of the Mischem Security Agency in the nursery compound.

The victims were identified as 44-year old Felix Corvera, Elias Ybanez, Jesus Cortez, both 45 years old and all residents of Barangay Tabon, this city.

In a report submitted to the Bislig City Police Director Vicente Reveche informed Caraga Regional Police Director Alberto Olario that the three guards were tied up and then struck at various areas in their bodies.

A manhunt operation had been launched for the suspects. This is not the first time the NPA had burned the equipment of Picop.

A number of security guards had already been killed in a previous attack. Reports have it that the money stolen was used as "revolutionary taxes" for the NPA.

There were also reports that the security guards were killed by the rebels as a result of their abusiveness.

Chief Superintendent Olario said he strongly believes that ordinary criminals or disgruntled Picop workers are the suspects.

He said it is possible the suspects had been so angry at the company as evidenced by the stabbing and hacking done on the guards.

Meanwhile, in Rosario, Agusan Del Sur two identified NPA members killed a barangay chairman inside an office.

The victim identified as 53-year old Milvino Ocete of Anoling, Rosario, Agusan del Sur had his office barged into by two youths who then killed him.

The suspects first asked whether he was the chairman and explained that they have a land dispute case against him.
The suspects used a .45 pistol in shooting Ocete on the chest resulting in his death.

After the shooting those inside the barangay hall panicked and two back-up security people and clobbered the youths.

But the suspects brought out their weapons causing the visitors to run out in fear. One of the youths drew a grenade and threatened to throw it at the security men.

The suspects then escaped by boarding a habal-habal (specialized motorcycle) driven by a certain Rodrigo Caling.

The suspects told Caling to deliver them straight to a field near the Rosario area.
