Emano mulls revamp of Oro precinct chiefs By Rubelyn Yap
SOME Cagayan de Oro City policemen are allegedly protectors of robbery, carnap and drug syndicates operating in the city.
Mayor Vicente Emano said this even as he warned the police
amd other local officials not to protect criminals.
Emano also said he is seriously considering reshuffling the police precinct commanders admitting that it is one of his administration's failures. "I failed in some ways. But we are going to correct those," he said.
During the mayor's weekly message in Monday's flag-raising ceremony Emano said the government is serious in ridding itself of unscrupulous persons in its ranks.
"Dili kini tiaw-tiaw. Kani kamatuoran (This is not a joke. This is the truth) and I am serous in running after these people. We should cleanse the ranks of the police in the country," he said.
Emano said there are those who are getting close to top officials in order to protect their illegal activities.
Emano said he received reports there were some police personnel in the city protecting drug syndicates. The mayor said there are limits to people's friendship. "If it ends it will be forever," he said.
Emano then asked the officials and employees whether or not they would be his allies in maintaining peace and order in Cagayan de Oro City.
For his part, Cogon police precinct head Efren Camaro said it is the mayor's prerogative to replace the precinct commanders whom he deemed corrupt and ineffective.
Inspector Camaro said if he knew the police officers or personnel who are confirmed protectors of crime syndicates, he will file a case against them and allow them to be killed by the so-called vigilantes. "Kung mahibaw-an lang nato (If we only knew them)," he said.
Later, Insp. Ador Flores of Police Precinct 9 said he maintains his integrity as a police officer.
