Oro off-road club tops Davao leg of Caltex extreme challenge By Lynde Salgados
THE Cagayan de Oro Off-Road Club has now produced two qualifiers in the National Caltex Delo 4X4 Extreme Challenge after its very own president Agustin "Toten" Macmang ruled the third elimination leg of the series concluded recently in Davao city.
"Taking the leg titles twice in a row is such a great accomplishment worth to be given much attention by the local sporting eyes. We must be proud of them," a Cagayan de Oro Off-Road Club insider told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro marketing manager Liezl Deloso in a text message to relay the good news.
Macmang's compatriot Alberto Monte de Ramos had earlier topped the 2nd leg here at Pueblo de Oro's Business Park at the expense of many-time champion Noel Bartolome of Manila Land Cruisers Club.
In conquering the Eagles race track in Maa, Davao city, Macmang turned in an aggregate time of 6 hours, 61 minutes and 51 seconds to edge out homegrown favorite Michael Cerin (8:48.55) for the top honor and a brand new 4X4 Suzuki Multi-cab and two big trophies that go along with it.
Two more Cagayanons made it to the elite circle as Richard Emano and Robert Abas clocked 9:52.63 and 10:49.14, respectively, to finish third and fourth ahead of strong contender Timtom Gempesaw of the Davao 4 Wheelers Club.
Over 50 teams from all over the country have participated in the grueling three-day race on the mudpits.
