Team CDO will join MFG, BP meets By Lynde Salgados
LIKE Misamis Oriental, Cagayan de Oro City Councilor Benjo Benaldo says Cagayan de Oro will definitely participate in the next editions of the Mindanao Friendship Games and Batang Pinoy Philippine National Youth Games.
In fact, Benaldo, who is the city's sports chief, recently said he already has established sources of fund for the two big forthcoming events.
"Team CDO will be competing and we have already sure budget in hand," were Benaldo's reassuring words.
The youthful legislator added that the long-delayed CDO Olympics, which might be realized within this month will serve as the qualifying games for the Friendship Games to be hosted by Mati, Davao Oriental in October and the Batang Pinoy meet scheduled in January 2004 with no still official host declared by the organizing Philippine Sports Commission.
Last year, Team CDO was able to send a token number of athletes in Batang Pinoy held then in Puerto Princesa, Palawan on last-ditch effort.
Already, Benaldo's revelation has drawn appreciation from no less than his much younger counterpart in the province.
Meanwhile, Philippine Athletics and Track and Field Association (Patafa) 10 head Zaide Ua-o shares his sentiments about the so-called overlapping of sports function and responsibility that has been observed recently in the locality.
"The city sports officials must do something to protect the integrity of every sports association here nga matamakan ining mga amigo ra sab nato (who might be stepped on by our friends)," Ua-o said, even also addressing her concern to Cmofensa chair lawyer Allan Abellanosa.
