Muslims seek discipline, renewal at Ramadan's end
By Lizanilla Amarga

MUSLIMS celebrated their Feast of Eid El Fitr Wednesday with the local Office of Muslim Affairs (OMA-10) expressing hopes for "moral discipline" and "spiritual renewal" be in the hearts of all.

Lawyer Ombra Gandamra, regional Office of Muslim Affairs-10 (OMA-10) chief, told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro they celebrated the blessed day of Eid'l Fitr which concludes the fasting for the month of Ramadhan.

"I hope the virtues of sincerity, humility, generousity and perseverance be with all of the Muslims and that sense of moral discipline and spiritual renewal be incalculated in our minds, and may the mercy and blessings of Allah be with us always," he said.

National Labor and Reconciliation Commission (NLRC) Commissioner Salic Dumarpa and his wife Congresswoman Faysah Dumarpa also expressed similar aspirations.

"On the occassion of Eidl Fitr I join my wife Lanao del Sur Second Dist. Rep.
Faysah Dumarpa in extending our greetings and felicitations to the Muslim Umma here and elsewhere...We wish you all a prosperous eid," they said in a text message yesterday.

Lax Dalidig, the head of the Muslim Multisectoral Development Organization also greeted his brother Muslims particularly those who "fully observed" the whole month of Ramadhan fasting.

"Because they won against the evil hope the spirit of Ramadhan will remain in their heart up to the next Ramadhan so they will be a true Muslim," he said.

Meanwhile, Christian groups who also observed the Feast of Eid'l Fitr yesterday also extended their greetings to their Muslim brethern.

This included Senator Aquilino Pimentel, Jr., Cagayan de Oro Press Club (COPC) president Jerry Orcullo, Integrated Bar of the Philippines local chapter president lawyer Zoilo Velez and former president lawyer Manuel Ravanera among others.

"I greet our Muslim brethren. Happy Eid El Ftr. May the end of Ramadhan usher in the beginning of a renewed and sincere search for peace by all the peoples of Mindanao," Pimentel said.

Orcullo for his part expressed hopes that the "solidarity" between the Muslims and Christians will flourish further as the Ramadhan month culminates.

Velez and Ravanera of IBP-Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro also joined the others in felicitating the Islamic Umah on the occassion of the Feast of Eid El Fitr.

For them, yesterday was "most significant" as it marks the culmination of the month-long observance of the fasting month of Ramadhan.

"May Allah Almighty grant you the rewards and blessings for your sacrifice and abstinence from worldly temptations," they said.

"On this day, may we call upon all of you to join hand with the government in our resolve to find a just and lasting solution to the decades-old Moro problem, and give meaning to the Muslim greeting of Salam--Peace in Muslim Mindanao," they added.
