Comelec still awaiting word for extension of validation By Lizanilla Amarga
THE city office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced Thursday that so far, there has been no word from their central office that Friday's deadline for voters' validation would be extended.
Comelec acting election officer IV Maria Dulce Cuevas-Banzon said Thursday that as of now, they have not received an order to this effect so Friday's deadline still stands.
"Pero basin karon pang taud taud or ugma moabot ang order nga i-extend (But perhaps later or tomorrow the order might arrive)," she said.
More than 70 percent of city voters have already gotten their voting records validated at the City Comelec office.
Since December 3, about 128,225 voters out of the total 207,490 voters registered last year in Cagayan de Oro had their records validated in the new Comelec computer record system or a margin of 79,265 voters.
"This doesn't include those who visited us, filed their validation documents and got their voter records straight in our computer system between December 4 to today, December 11," Comelec officer Maria Luisa Marilou Nacaytuna said.
As of December 3, Comelec records revealed a total of 164,627 voters for next year out of which 36,402 are new registrants while the rest are registered voters who got their records validated.
Banzon said she hopes that all past registered voters in the city would be able to have their records validated Friday.
She said no one is exempted from having their voter's records validated in their computer record system not even "active voters" who exercised their right to vote during regular elections.
Banzon, however, clarified that those unable to get their records validated in their computer system can still vote next year but will be placed on the "Comelec watchlist."
"Warag mahulog nga naa na sila sa last ug suspicious in nature na ang ilang pagka-voter kay wala man ma-validate ilang records (Their names will be last on the list of voters and will be viewed as suspicious in nature as their records have not been validated)," she said.
The City Comelec has 18 data capturing machines (DCMs), six of which are in the Comelec City office.
"Satellite teams" will roam the barangays in the city to make it more convenient for voters to get their records validated.
