CCS to hold only one grad ceremony
INSTEAD of five graduation ceremonies the City Central School (CCS) will hold just one graduation ceremony for its graduates scheduled Monday.
Councilor Jose Benjamin Benaldo revealed this Sunday saying one of his sources told him that the Department of Education (DepEd) issued an order to this effect.
The announcement came even as representatives from the CCS's General Parents and Teachers Association (GPTA) squabbled with each other over matters like the graduation ceremonies and budget problems at dxJR TV last Friday evening.
The CCS had been in an uproar over the move instituted by City Schools Supt. Dr. Elenita Martinez to divide the CCS into five districts.
In justifying the division Martinez said it would be easier for the CCS administration and its teachers to be managed and monitored by five designated principals.
One of the offshoots of the problem is the P150 graduation fee being charged to parents of graduating students, which remain unresolved despite assurances by GPTA president Jigs Jaraula on the case.
GPTA president for Grade 4 level, Andy Lacubtan, voiced his disappointment over the division of the CCS saying it was done late in the year and should have been undertaken for this school year instead.
Lacubtan said the five graduation ceremonies should be done as a whole instead because the DepEd had yet to decide on the issue.
He even criticized a certain Atty. Arroyo during the dxJR program saying the latter didn't know anything about the issue and should study it thoroughly first.
For his part, Atty. Arroyo mentioned that the five graduation ceremonies were done for the convenience of everyone because the CCS quadrangle couldn't accommodate all the graduating students and their parents.
The five designated principals for the five CCS divisions filed their leaves, reasoning they have been stressed by the whole issue.
Later, in a phone interview, Benaldo said the City Council committee on education, which he chairs, tried to resolve the case by inviting all concerned parties but this didn't push through.
Despite this he said the council passed a resolution asking the DepEd to speedily resolve the incident. (Yuri Locsin)
