Ravanera, Ellorin grace Oro chess tilt
CONGRESSIONAL candidate Manuel Ravanera and City Council bet Bencyrus Ellorin are expected to grace the opening ceremony of the 1st Ravanera Cup Chess Festival in Barangay Carmen.
"Naa na ang budget sa prizes so, dayon ang tournament," CMOCC treasurer Raul Tan happily informed Sun.Star.
To be played in an open-air site near the GSIS building, the P50,000 rich tourney also features age-group categories for 13-under and 17-under contestants.
Primed to duel it out for the P7,000 top purse in the open team championship are the Esmar Estrella-bankrolled squad of NM Levi Mercado, Jimmy Dano, Johnnel Balquin, Harrison Maamo and Bebot Arroyo and Misor Chess Club bannered by NM Roger Verganio, Jokorn Maestrado, Jake Gonzales, Jordan Muleta and Silverio Abasolo.
"Naa pa miy sa barko pero coming na mi in time for the open team tournament," Verganio texted Sun.Star Sunday night.
Tan also expects Iligan powered by NM Fernandito Pialan among the teams to beat in the seven-round Swiss system event organized by the Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental Chess Club through its president Gogoy Macasero.
