Over 100 workers lost jobs in Saturday fire

MORE than 100 workers lost their jobs Saturday as the commercial buildings that housed their work places were gutted down by an early morning fire.

This came as Mayor Vicente Emano Saturday got angry after City Councilor Reynaldo Advincula reported there was no police officer around J.R. Borja-Osmeña streets in the Cogon Public Market area where the fire incident occurred.

Fire officers reported that nine major establishments were gutted by the blaze. No one was reportedly hurt but officials estimated the structural damage to be around P500,000.

Bureau of Fire Protection city fire investigator FO3 Victor Naive reported that the fire started around 1:44 Saturday morning and burned down portions of two commercial buildings located at J.R. Borja-Osmeña streets.

He said the fire started at the third floor of the building fronting Osmeña St. particularly the portion occupied by certain Fedelisa Barcelita and Johnny Moorjani, reportedly owners of one of the affected establishments.

Fireman Tony Facturanan, however, told Sun.Star Cagayan that their agency is still looking into the "real cause" of the fire.

Meanwhile, Emano said he is going to launch an investigation as to how come police officers were not around during the fire.

The affected Cogon block is under the area of responsibility (AOR) of Insp. Celso Montil, commander of Police Precinct 2.

The 2 commercial buildings had nine occupants namely: Unique Marketing, Dilao Shopping Center, Galsano Enterprises, Rika Drugstore, Persimmon Bakeshoppe,
Agencia Niña Jewelry, Rose Pharmacy, Cogon Bakeshoppe and Fely's Jewelry Shop.
