NPA admits burning Lipunan bus
THE New People's Army "Iking Balaquit Command" claimed responsibility for burning the Bagong Lipunan Bus in Barangay Agay-Ayan, Gingoog City Wednesday night.
In a radio interview, Iking Balacuit spokesperson Emilio Libertad said this was done in retaliation to bus owner Bonifacio Moreno's failure to pay around P2 million worth of damaged crops to the 38 displaced families in Kasuan, Barangay Lunao Gingoog City.
Around 41 hectares of land in Kasuan were purchased by Moreno through what Libertad referred to as the former's "dummy" Rosauro dela Sala for half a million pesos in October 17 last year from farmers.
Libertad said the title to the land is supposed to be given last January 22 this year but it had yet to be assessed.
He said the farmers are demanding around P2,760,276 million for the crops planted by them aside from the P3 million for the products that have yet to develop.
But instead of paying the farmers, Libertad said Moreno chose to place armed security guards and fenced the area with barbed wire.
Libertad said the farmers were barred from their homes even if they had occupied the area for a long time.
Gingoog City Police Chief Insp. Raul Benitez said he didn't know about whether Moreno purchased the land and added that he will investigate Libertad's story.
The bus bearing body number 372 was driven by 42-year old Jericho Mendoza who said five armed youths that boarded their vehicle from Tambagan, Medina town in Misamis Oriental.
On reaching Mingkapis, Mendoza said the youths told him and eight passengers, two of whom are police officers, to get off the bus.
