Warrants out for gang rape suspects

THE Regional Trial Court Branch 10 issued arrest warrants for the three suspects involved in the Marlboro gang rape.

However, the victim was dismayed on learning that her tormentors had already gone away from their respective places.

RTC Branch 10 Judge Edgardo Lloren issued the arrest warrant for the three suspects identified as JR Capinpuyan, Mark Baguasan and Vincent "Von" Cadiz as well as a certain John Doe last Sept. 13.

Regional Director Virgillio Mendez of the National Bureau of Investigation-10 (NBI) said he ordered his men to arrest the suspects but they went missing from their houses.

Lloren slapped the suspects with no bailbond recommendation for their supposed temporary liberty.

The three suspects were among the five suspects who were earlier arrested by NBI agents a few hours after the supposed rape occurred inside a mini-van owned by one Sanguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman.

The vehicle was parked at an adjacent lot called "Marlboro" at Limketkai center last July 6.

In their sworn affidavits, all three denied they raped the victim and maintained it was a consensual act.

The suspects' lawyers then filed a habeas corpus that resulted to their immediate release from the NBI detention cell.

The victim told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro she was a little bit relieved due to the issuance of the warrant of arrest against the suspects.

"I will just hope and pray that all of them (suspects) would be arrested as soon as possible so I could start to face them eye to eye inside the court," the victim said.

She said she thanked God for the guidance and who made her stronger to face everyday.

She also mentioned the civic groups and individuals who supported her.

Meanwhile, Mendez said he believes that the suspects are hiding.
