Justice getting costly: lawyers
"IT will make justice expensive."
This was the statement of one of the lawyers of a Xavier University College of Law (XU-Law) organization Friday regarding the proposed Department of Justice (DOJ) fees.
Also, former councilor Atty. Butch Bagabuyo expressed convictions that the imposition of more fees would drive some people to seek justice in some other ways.
"Kay gakamahal naman ang pagpasaka ug kaso basin mangita nalang sila ug laing paagi dili na diha sa atong korte (Because it is getting more expensive to file charges, people are now going to look for justice not inside our courtrooms)," he said.
Meanwhile, Atty. Eleuterio Diao, an Epsilon Beta Kappa Society (EBK Society) lawyer and XU-Law professor who has a master's degree, said the DOJ fees would be an additional burden to the poor.
"Labi na kadtong gyud mga pobre nga nayatakan ang ilang katungod (Especially those indigent people who believe that their rights have been trampled upon)," he said.
Nevertheless, Diao said people have to acknowledge that our government right now is really in a crisis.
He added that he has already seen the DOJ circular for the schedule of the collection of fees and that they are now set to be implemented.
Diao's statement was during an interview over dxDD Channel 39 Friday night when the EBK Society was also promoting their Edukasyon Baload ug ang Katawhan (EBK) television program which is slated to start its regular program Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Diao was accompanied by EBK Most Exalted Betan Giovanni Brucoy along with Jessica Angeles and incoming lawyer Marlo Selecios.
