City Hall assures market stall owners

* Emano says only one stall for every stallholder
* Cogon market set for completion this December

ALL stallholders of Carmen and Cogon public markets will definitely be able to do business again, Mayor Vicente Emano said.

The mayor said the awarding of stalls at the new Carmen market has been scheduled. He said the assignment of stalls will be done through a placement raffle.

The mayor explained that this is the reason why there had been delays in the awarding of stalls at Carmen.

He said the city is taking pains to ensure that everyone will be given a fair chance to own stalls.

"Maoy nakalangan niini...ang gihimo nga pagtino kay adunay mga stallholder nga nanag-iya sa daghan nga mga talad ug usa ra ang award niini matag aplikante aron kadtong uban matagaan sa higayon pagpanag-iya ug talad (This is what delayed the market opening...what happened is that there are stallholders who owned several stalls when there should be only one awarded to every applicant so that everyone would be able to own one)," he said.

Earlier, opposition Councilor Zaldy Ocon cited the delay in the opening of the two public markets to disagreements between Emano and UKC contractor Dodong Uy regarding the designation of stallholders in the markets.

According to reports, Emano wanted the stallholders designated at the bottom of the market buildings, a position refused by Uy.

Because of the alleged disagreement the workers have been pulled out causing delays in the completion of the market projects, which are implemented under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) scheme.

But Emano denied the reports saying that the workers in Carmen public market had been focusing their efforts on finishing the project there before transferring and finishing work on the Cogon market.

The mayor said the Cogon market will be completed and opened by December this year. (SC)
