Businessman shot dead
By Joey P. Nacalaban

FOR his supposed failure to pay the interest on his loan, a businessman was shot dead inside his fastfood store at Cruz Taal/Rizal streets at 7:30 p.m. last Thursday.

The 40-year-old victim was identified as Joseph Bandola, a resident of the area and owner of the Bandione Fast Food store.

He succumbed to two gunshot wounds in the head and right shoulder fired from a .45 caliber pistol used by the gunman identified as Gerardo Osabel, a native of Inting Extension, Tagbilaran City.

Also arrested was Osabels's 27-year-old companion a certain Sanny Villagnas of Barangay Bonbon, this city.

Osabel was the owner of G and R Finance Corporation, a lending firm based in the city.

In an interview the lending firm's cashier Ronald Tabuan, told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro that prior to the incident the suspects and the victim were drink inside the store.

"Pero ang tuyo gyud ni Osabel mao ang pagpaniningil sa utang kang manong (victim). Giingnan siya ni manong nga interest naman lang ang kulang nako sa imo (But Osabel's purpose was to collect the interest of the victim. The victim said he only has the interest to pay him)," Tabuan recounted.

After downing several bottles of beer, Osabel became unruly and even shouted to the victim and reminding the latter of his payment.

An altercation between the two occurred then the victim stood from his chair and went back to the cashier's counter but the suspect, who was already irked followed him.

Sensing danger, Bandola secretly ordered store waiter Arly Cabunelas to report to the police.

But Cabunelas said before he could walk away from the area he heard two gunshots from inside.

Even then he continued walking until he arrived at the police headquarters.

Divisoria police precinct chief Insp. Buenaventura Reyes said he and some members of his precinct immediately responded to the crime scene and almost caught up the suspects.

"Didto na sa sakyanan ang duha ka suspetsado mao tong among gi-orderan sa pagkanaug apan misutoy hinuon pagdagan (The two suspects are in the vehicle that's why we ordered them to get out but they sped off)," Buenaventura said.

A brief chase ensued and pursuing lawmen fired off warning shots to no avail and so they shot down the vehicle's tires.

Though one of the jeepney's tires was flat, the suspects still sped off from the chasing law enforcers.

Buenaventura said it was Osabel who drove the pick-up Nissan Frontier with plate number GND-921.

While traversing along YacapinBurgos streets, the suspects sideswept two motorela vehicles and it only stopped when it crashed on a house along the road.

It was at this juncture that the suspects gave themselves up to the police.

Taken from Osabel was a .45 caliber pistol with serial numbers 174925 government model colt M1911A with three live bullets, some cash and some personal belongings.

The suspects who were temporarily detained at Maharlika mini-cell, refused to be interviewed by the media.

Criminal charges are expected to be filed Friday against the suspects.
