Explain waste disposal, ABC tells manufacturing firm
THE City Health Office reportedly found a manufacturing plant in Barangay Puntod allegedly disposing oil and liquid wastes and causing fear among the residents in the area.
Barangay Puntod chairman Alexander Dacer disclosed said he is now giving LKKS Manufacturing Corp. (LMC) time to explain the situation Saturday during their barangay session and to comply with the recommendation set by the CHO.
"Kay kung dili nila na atimanon mapugos gyud ko ug pasaka ani didto sa konseho (For if LMC fails to act on this, I will be forced to bring this matter to the City Council)," he told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro Friday.
Sun.Star failed to reach Glen Limketkai as of press time Friday but his officials said the Limketkais are already aware of the situation and are willing to comply with the recommendation of the City Health Department.
LMC is located at Julio Pacana St., Barangay Puntod. Its business is engaged in milling corn and the manufacture of coco and corn oil.
Dacer said residents near LMC have earlier expressed fears that the oil and liquid wastes disposed by LMC at the back end of one of its buildings fronting Corrales Ext. Street might cause health problems and even spark fires.
"Dili lang kay baho kon dili nahadlok usab kami nga naa unya'y sunog diri kay oil gud kana ang ilang gi-dispose (It is not only causing foul odor but also we fear that this might start a fire here as they are disposing oil)," he said adding that this was why he immediately requested the City Health Department to conduct an investigation on LMC.
In his report, CHO sanitation inspector-I Arnulfo Ruyeras, Jr. said traces of oil and liquid wastes were found on LMC drainage and canals.
"That during an occurrence of heavy rain, rain water as well as its liquid wastes are pumped out using water pumps so as to prevent the entire LMC premises to be flooded," he said.
He reported that the liquid wastes at the back of the LMC building is stagnant due to the clogging of the drainage along Corrales Ext. Street.
Ruyeras is now recommending that LMC improve their treatment plant to prevent further spillage of oil into their drainage canal.
He is also advising the LMC to apply some chemicals that may eliminate the residue oil on the canal.
"We also recommend the improvement and repair of the sewage/drainage system by the right agency concerned along the Corrales Ext. St.," he said.
