Big crowd to fire up Basketball All-Star Weekend
By Lynde Salgados

AROUND 4,000 fans are expected to watch the All-Star Weekend of the Amigo Basketball League (ABL) here on Dec. 19 at the Mindanao Polytechnic State College (MPSC) gym.

Based on the outcome of ticket sales, ABL commissioner Ardizon Arsua said a huge turnout of spectators is not a remote possibility "coz we worked hard early to ensure the success of the All-Star Weekend, though most of the ticket sales are still collectible."

Pitting the best from the South and Northern teams, the All-Star show will open after the preliminary exhibition match between Ballpals and its Team B counterparts from Subokin being scheduled to start at exactly 6 pm.

"Fixed na tanan atong schedules so, sharp 6 pm gyod mag-start ang decision game sa Ballpals ug Subokin. Any alteration of the games' skeds will only ruin everything," the youthful league commissioner told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.

Arsua did not hesitate to reveal, however, the minor changes undertaken for the South's official roster as they now decided to replace former MBA playmaker Jaime Rivera with Victor Cabeltes of Nazareth Nonoy's Lechon as the Southern team head coach.

Cabeltes will be assisted on the bench by Tatang Suplemento of Bulua Clay Country.
"In our recent board meeting, we decided to drop Rivera as the South's head coach kay medyo dili available pirme iyang serbisyo."

Arsua said they're also contemplating to look a replacement for power forward Nicho Pupos in the South's starting five, owing to his conspicuous absences in the team's practice sessions.

The minor changes, Arsua said, will never affect the winning chances for both squads. "Kay close-fight gyod kaayo `ni nga tapad and I can guarantee nga malingaw gyod niini ang manan-away."

Celbon Deña, erstwhile Misor Warriors pointguard, will call the shots for the North beefed up mostly by role players with an insatiable appetite to win.
