ABL to pick elite 12 in the All-Star game
By Lynde Salgados

* As league commissioner Arsua reveals pre-season plans

NOT just the star players as the Amigo Basketball League will be on guard looking for the cream of the crop in the ABL All-Star Weekend here on Dec. 19 at the MPSC gym.

From the 24 cagers selected to represent the South and North teams in the league's special offering for Christmas, ABL commissioner Ardizon Arsua said they will pick again the best 12 performers out to compose the elite team that will be up for a challenging task and enjoy a maximum exposure for further development.

"Dinhi sa All-Star kita mosala og dose (12) ka best players sa ABL nga maoy atong ipa-engkwentro sa taga-gawas nga mga commercial teams," said Arsua as he shared his plan of holding a pre-season Invitational Games next year.

Playing with older teams in a commercial-type atmosphere, Arsua said, would be beneficial in as far as gaining experience for the 19-under mainstays of the ABL family.

"There are many good ideas so, we're trying our best to explore something new aron mas exciting pa gyod atong liga," Arsua told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.

Already, the Capitol University had already absorbed some of the potential ABL dribblers to its senior varsity squad under the mentorship of Jonas Molawan.

And Arsua is almost certain that more basketball-conscious schools in the city will follow suit.

"As what I've said earlier, the ABL is a reliable partner for basketball development in the locality," added Arsua.

Meanwhile, there's no turning back for the Team B tussle between Ballpals and Subokin in the 6 pm preliminary of the All-Star game.

Ballpals president Pinggoy Castro will post the official lineup of the club this afternoon at the Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Center, their homecourt for over a decade now.

If plans will not miscarry, Castro said Ballpals Team B will have its final practice on Friday afternoon at the MPSC gym.

For his part, coach Dodo Bernados said he and assistant coach Yangyang Rollan have no problems for Subokin.

"Kay very cooperative ang halos tanan nga miyembro sa among club. Wala miy problema sa players labi na pag-come up sa Team B selection. Anyway, this is just an exhibition game so, enjoy lang ang tanan," were his charming words.

Around 4,000 fans are expected to watch the All-Star Weekend, which will also showcase the customary shootout contest and slamdunk competition.
