Governor's Cup golf tourney set Jan. 29
By Lynde Salgados

A whopping P500,000 cash awaits hole-in-one jackpot

ROTARY International (RI) District 3870 will celebrate its 100 years in the mainstream of charitable works by holding another golf tournament here.

Dubbed as "Centennial Governor's Cup," it will tee off on Jan. 29 at the famed Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club.

Event coordinator Rolando Uy said over P150,000 in raffle prizes are at stake in the two-day hostility which expects participants from the Rotary's golfing fraternities throughout the country.

The biggest catch of the Governor's Cup, Uy said, is the whopping P500,000 cash awaiting the lucky winner of the hole-in-one jackpot on holes number 2, 6, 11 and 13.

Conqueror of these challenging holes will also win a 29-inch color TV by TCL and one Koppel Split Wall Mounted Aircon.

"Winning the hole-in-one is like hitting a lotto jackpot so, mao sab na ang usa sa mga major attraction every time nga moapil kita sa torneyo sa golf," fellow Rotarian Edu Alaba told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.

Entry fee of the amateur golf tournament is P1,200 per head, even as the reservation slot is given on "first come, first serve" basis.

Uy further explained that the sponsor has the right to refuse a player who does not adhere to golf rules and regulations. The decision of the organizing committee is final.

"What interested me to play golf in my spare time is that the game itself reflects the character of a person whether he's honest or not because you're literally playing against yourself on the field," added Alaba who owns the Dynamics Pharmacy and Paper Station in Divisoria.

Event formats are handicap play, two days to play, overall lowest gross net scores (2 days), best 18 hole score on other categories and tiebreak-count back starting hole no.18 except lowest gross.

Tee off time is 5:20 am with the last tee off time on Sunday at 11 am.

Awards night and raffles will be on Sunday (6:30 pm) at the Country Village Hotel.
