Del Monte golfers in challenging task By Lynde Salgados
* As they're taking a crack in the race for top honors
THE Del Monte group of golfers hope to orchestrate a swashbuckling finish in today's culmination of the Centennial Governor's Cup here at Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club.
Last tee off time is 5:20 am with the rest of the local bets wishing their reliable compatriots from Bukidnon-based club of all the lucks.
"They (Del Monte parbusters) are my favorites on the field because they have the ability to give our rivals from other places in the Philippines a run for the top honors. Mga maayong laki ni sila modula," said Edu Alaba, president of the Drugstores of the Philippines Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental Chapter, who will be in flight 6 in the concluding phase of the two-day golf fest presented by the Rotary International District 3870 as part of its 100 years anniversary celebration.
Spearheading Del Monte's quest for the prestigious title are the siblings of golfing great Frank Miñoza of Camp Phillips, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
Over 200 amateur parbusters are participating in the Governor's Cup, which also drew some foreign entries from Korea.
Over P150,000 in raffle prizes are at stake in the Rotary-backed golf fest which also offers a whopping P500,000 cash for the lucky winner of the hole-in-one jackpot on any of the challenging holes no. 2, 6, 11 and 13.
Conqueror of the hole-in-one challenge will also go home with a 29-inch color TV and one Koppel Split Wall Mounted Aircon.
Awards night and raffles is 6:30 pm at the Country Village Hotel.
