Lantapan town wins Kaamulan street-dancing contest By Stephen Capillas
MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon -- The town of Lantapan, Bukidnon province came away as the big winner in the Kaamulan Street-Dancing festival held at the Provincial Capitol grounds here last Saturday.
The Lantapan town contingent beat around nine contingents from the towns of Libona, Baungon, Sumilao, Don Carlos, Valencia City and Maramag as well as Bukidnon State College, and Malaybalay City to capture the coveted "Best Float" and "Best Group Presentation" categories.
Prior to the street dancing, a "pamalas" ritual was performed at the Capitol grounds and in front of the Pine Hills Hotel here, which is the start off point for the activity.
Due to the huge number of participants the Kaamulan street dancing activity didn't start until well past the scheduled 7:00 a.m. slot.
A fireworks presentation signaled the start of the street dancing activity that proceeded through Fortich St. all the way to the Capitol grounds.
This was followed by a cultural presentation of Bukidnon dances and rituals, which portrayed through song and dance the ancient legend of how the various towns in the province came to be.
Meanwhile the Lantapan town contingent captured the P50,000 top prize in the float category and the P150,000 top prize for the group presentation category.
Other winners for the float category are Libona town which nailed the P20,000 third prize and Don Carlos which won the P30,000 second prize.
For the group presentation Don Carlos came in third this time and netting the P50,000 third prize while Malaybalay City won the P100,000 second prize.
The street dancing event which drew in thousands of domestic tourists and a number of foreign visitors is one of many in the Kaamulan festival which began last March 1 and runs until March 19.
And in his speech Bukidnon Gov. Jose Maria Zubiri thanked the contingents for their participation in the event, one of many scheduled for the ongoing Kaamulan festival.
"Through the Kaamulan festival we take pride in the fact that Bukidnon province remains the most peaceful in Mindanao. In fact I can say that Bukidnon is the heart of Mindanao," he told the crowd.
The Kaamulan festival is spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Bukidnon through the Provincial Governor's Office, the Provincial Board of Bukidnon and the Provincial Tourism Office.
