A philanthropic lady By Nena Neri Hernandez
THIS is still about Interesting People and Events and my fingers itched to write about a Lady I just met and admired instantly, a Personality I thought must be known to many. And to think, this Lady is not even from Cagayan de Oro but from far away Bataan. She cannot be ignored because of her philanthropic activities.
She is the founder of Capitol University, formerly Cagayan Capitol College, Madam Laureana S. Rosales. A private Non Sectarian Co-educational Institution that she established on February 14, 1971. In 1973, the School of Midwifery was opened; 1974 Maritime Programs; 1976 the College of Agriculture, Engineering and Nursing. For the College of Nursing they have the Cagayan General Hospital that serves as the training facility for the College of Nursing. And, in Gusa, this City, they have the St. Francis Learning Center for the Pre-school and Elementary Students.
Last February 14, they celebrated the 34th Foundation Day Anniversary. During the Academic convocation at Five o'clock in the afternoon, Madam Laureana S. Rosales, Founder/Chairman of the Board, Capitol System of School's First President, Cagayan Capitol College, was conferred the title President Emeritus.
The Program consisted of a Processional with the Faculties of the different Departments, Entrance of Colors, Ecumenical Prayer, Philippine National Anthem by the Capitol University Glee Club, Convening of the Convocation by Dr. Luvismin S. Aves, Welcome Address by the Vice Pres. for Finance Mrs. Rosalinda R. Deleste, Testimonials of Ms. Dorcas M. Bandiala, from the Student Body, Mercedes D. Macadenden, fron the Faculty, Dr. Milagros J. Yanong from the Administration, Prof. Samuel R. Macabintar from the CU Alumni Association, Prof. Leona A. CID from the CCC Pioneering Batch, Msgr. Tex M. Legitimas, SSJV, PC, VG Community and Friends, and Prof. Miriam A. Barrera, Capitol System of Schools. The reading of Citation by Dr. Fe R. Juarez, Executive Vice President of the University, and the Conferment of the Presidency Emeritus by Atty. Casimiro B. Juarez Jr., President, Capitol University. The affair ended with a Tribute to the Honoree and the playing of the University Hymn.
The Recessional with the Honoree followed by all the faculties of the University. Madame Laureana S. Rosales cannot be described with just half a page, or even one page because of her many accomplishments, the many recognition and awards she received but this I can say, SHE IS QUITE A LADY!!!
