Bagabuyo: Benjo and new blood in politics By Butch Z. Bagabuyo Scintilla
THE time has come for the rebirth of leaders from Mindanao to rescue our dear country from the clutches of the present de facto government.
I say this because the subjects, if not slaves, who live in Manila and suburbs, of imperial Manila are all blabbermouths but have no balls.
Everybody knows that the present de facto government in Manila has perfected the art of hypocrisy coupled with rampant and unmitigated graft and corruption; yet, nobody is doing the dirty work of unseating the power-grabbers, sadly supported by the CBCP.
Our situation now is even worse than those times when we were ruled by a dictator.
Today, advocates of freedom and democracy disappear without anyone, other than the military, knowing where they are or have been brought to.
Radio, TV and print broadcasters and commentators are shot dead, with the government practically not lifting a finger.
And while the late Ferdinand Marcos, a brilliant lawyer, always provided a semblance of legality to whatever he did, Taray does not give a damn.
She confiscates private property--Piatco's airport terminal--without paying just compensation to its owners, as duly provided for in our Constitution.
There is a great possibility that our dear country can no longer depend on the triumvirate--Bono Adaza, Reuben Canoy and Nene Pimentel--for one reason or another.
But, I am confident that in due time a new leader (or leaders) from this city of gold would provide us the much needed leadership to save our dear country from total damnation.
Do I hear any suggestion?
* * * * *
When will our government and the military ever learn?
No matter how much ammunition and firepower the military will put in, the insurgency in Mindanao will not be crushed nor solved.
What we need are peacemakers, not warriors. We have had enough blood spilled in our grounds!
As the saying goes: "the pen is mightier than the sword."
The more rebels are killed by the soldiers, the more sons and daughters, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors would carry on the fight and cry for vengeance.
And, unless and until imperial Manila admits the undeniable fact that only the Mindanaoans can solve the problem in our island, then we would only witness the sad spectacle of constant waste of lives and resources in our beautiful and rich island of Mindanao...
It is high time, we, Mindanaoans, joined forces and repeal the aggression committed by the mercenaries of imperial Manila.
I suggest we conduct a school-to-school signature campaign all over Mindanao to demand the immediate cease-fire and order the soldiers to "return to barracks." Only then can we have peace in our island!

What we have in our country today are reactionaries. Our government does not seem to know how to govern. Unless something big happens, our government is not bothered that more and more Filipinos go hungry and out of work.
A case in point.
After the authorities learned of the untimely death of 25 elementary school children in Mabini, Bohol, our Department of Education made a stupid reaction.
If the reports are true, then we can expect that Department of Education Secretary Florencio Abad had issued an order banning all ambulant vendors near the schools.
Clearly the order is a reaction. Unfortunately, it is not only a stupid move. The order succeeded only in showing the ignorance of our Secretary for the Department of Education on our laws. How can he ban the vendors outside of his jurisdiction?
As correctly pointed out by region X director, Jesus Taberdo, of the Department of Education, DepEd has no power to control ambulant vendors near the schools.
To put it bluntly their power is limited within the bounds of the schools. It ends where the public streets or other properties begin.

I am pleasantly delighted to hear Honorable Councilor Jose "Benjo" Benaldo speak on the matter of the safety of our school children.
All along, I was on the wrong impression (I hope) that "Alas" has succeeded in clipping the mouths of his rubber stamp.
I can only hope and pray that Benjo would soon recover from his deep slumber and start using his God-given talent by standing up and speaking for the people of the City of Cagayan de Oro.
(As the Holy Week is fast approaching, permit me to quote: "What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and lose his soul")
Benjo! You need not be afraid. (Gi uban na si "alas," dako pa gyud kaayo'g tiyan og galisud na gani mo alsa sa iyang tiil. (For English translation, I suggest you contact Dodong Canoy for levity or Lorie dela Cerna, the expert)
And you won't be alone either!
As of now, the city has two brave and noble men in the city council. They are Honorables Zaldy Ocon and Alvin Calingin. Benjo could join the force and form a triumvirate! Why not?
The three of you could be the replacement of Bono Adaza, Reuben Canoy and Nene Pimentel of the Marcos era.
Youth is in your favor! And, time waits for no one.
