BARANGAY Carmen had once again shown its superiority over all other barangays in the city when it was declared as the over all champion on the fire olympics held recently at SM city.

Barangay chairman Rolando Uy commended the members of the Carmen rescue team (CAREST) and fire brigade volunteer for the exemplary skills they have done during the competition.

The event was the culmination rites on the observance of the fire prevention month celebration sponsored by the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP).

The competition were composed of two categories - the industrial and the barangay level.

There were 8 barangays that participated on the said occasion namely: Balulang, Bulua, Patag, Puntod, Kauswagan, Barangays 7,17 and Carmen.

Barangay Carmen emerged as the over-all champion and followed by Balulang as 2nd placer while the 3rd place was received by brgy. Bulua.

Supt. Arthur Gandola, Regional Fire Marshall Officer In-Charge of region 10 handed over a cash prize plus a trophy to Carmen representative.

Uy said his men also won the Modified Fire fighter Combat, the Triangular Bandaging competition, Fire extinguishment, bucket relay and busted hose connection.

They also received special awards for being the best contingent and best in uniform.

CAREST, Uy said is composed of 35 physically fit individuals who really undergone rigid training on firefighting.

The same group, Uy continued become the frontline mechanism to serve not only their own barangay but also nearby communities needing their assistance.

Last October 18, 2004 Brgy. Carmen received the Gawad Kalasag for setting up a functioning Barangay Desaster Coordinating Council that established the CAREST.

In 2002 Barangay Carmen was named Most Outstanding Barangay by the Rotary Club.

"Nahimo namo ning tanan nga kalamposan tungod usab sa walay hunong nga pagtabang sa mga molupyo ning maong barangay. Kung wala sla, wala akoy mahimo," Uy concluded.
