A lasting love
By Chic Fortich

WHEN I was still in Horseshoe Village, Q.C., I had a client who often went to Japan to sing. She had been there a few times, and was clearly in her mid-thirties at that time, and had a "growing" figure. She certainly was not the sexy type.

But the story she told me was so touching that I encouraged her to go through with it.

" Dwight O. Nacaytuna"< dwight_n44@yahoo.com> Heavenly Father, the Roman Catholics need a holy shepherd to guide them in their moral and spiritual journey back to your Kingdom. Bless the man who will sit on St. Peter's Basilica with the vision of the Great John Paul II .... Bless the Cardinal Arinze.

Much older as she was, she had met a very young Japanese fellow, who was only 22 at that time. But he had fascinated her with the strong love he had for her.

"He told me he knew about his reincarnation," she began. The Japanese fellow that he had been in his past lifetime had been a soldier of the Japanese Imperial Army who came to the Philippines.

He met a Filipino woman he had fallen in love with. But, then, he had been killed.

That woman got married later, and became her mother. She was still alive.

The Japanese young man came with her to the Philippines, told her mother of his past lifetime, then asked her for her daughter's hand in marriage.

The Japanese man's sincerity was very palpable, and his lasting love for the daughter was felt by everyone.

Still, the daughter vacillated. He really was too young for her.

That was why she consulted me. I quickly told her there was nothing wrong with marrying a much younger fellow. What was more important was the true love that you felt for him.

She drew back her breath with great relief, and smiled sweetly to me. "If that's what you're saying, then I'll marry him. I confess, I truly love him, too."

I was just told about her wedding, and the happiness that was shared by her mother.

Even years later, I kept receiving reports about her very happy marriage with the young Japanese man.

Their love was truly lasting, even after the first soldier had died.
