Rival radio stations in word war By Stephen Capillas
A WORD war of sorts erupted Tuesday between rival radio stations dxIF Bombo Radyo and dxCC Radio Mindanao Network (RMN) following the arrest of Bombo radio broadcaster Alexis Adonis on charges of illegal possession of firearms.
In his program "Koskos Batikos", lone opposition Councilor and broadcaster Zaldy Ocon went to town castigating Adonis for his supposed bias in favor of Mayor Vicente Emano and his continued attacks on him long after the elections ended.
However, on the other side of the AM radio channel, dxIF broadcaster Manny Augustero recited a litany of offenses committed by Ocon prior to his election as councilor.
During his program, Ocon "lectured" Adonis on what questions he should have asked Emano in his program instead of casting aspersions on him over the air.
Specifically, the opposition councilor told Adonis to question the mayor on issues like the "piso-piso" land program controversy and the alleged P100- million loan obtained by City Hall from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP).
The councilor commented that Adonis's questions to the mayor like other dxIF broadcasters are supposedly scripted in order for the mayor to avoid any controversy.
"Kay ang paggamit sa micropono alang sa kamatuoran og dili sa (bakak)...mas ngitngit ka pa sa alketran (The use of the microphone is only for the truth and not for lies...you are darker than tar)," Ocon said.
Ocon questioned whether the mayor had a hand in having Adonis placed under police custody. He said this runs counter to a similar case involving movie actor Robin Padilla in which the Supreme Court ruled against his release from prison.
Later on Augustero chided Ocon for portraying Adonis as a criminal without taking into account the acts he allegedly committed while still a councilor.
Augustero cited the gun-toting incident allegedly committed by his son at a local store in one of the barangays in the city as well as the beating given by Ocon on one Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) aide at City Hall.
The broadcaster supposedly clobbered the RTA aide for citing his son on a traffic violation. "You portray Adonis as a criminal even as you make yourself a good man before the public," Augustero said in Visayan.
The dxIF radioman likewise alleged that Ocon had been hiding his police-officer brother based in Davao City here in Cagayan de Oro from so-called "vigilantes" who wanted to eliminate him for his alleged corruption.
In an interview over at ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao, dxIF Bombo Radyo station manager Jun Albino Quinlog said they are investigating the incident, adding that Adonis committed the act while he was off-duty.
