Radioman to face new raps
By Lizanilla J. Amarga

CAGAYAN de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) chief Honorio Cervantes said Wednesday a person slapped charges of public alarm and scandal against dxIF Bombo Radyo broadcaster Alexander "Lex" Adonis.

The City Prosecutor's Office appointed three assistant prosecutors to serve as the panel that would resolve the radioman's cases. The panel already started their closed-door deliberation Wednesday.

Also, the military's 4th Infantry Division chief Major General Samuel Bagasin said he is going to "personally" investigate the authenticity of alleged mission order issued for Adonis from the military intelligence battalion (MIB).

The official will also be checking on whether the MIB was the one who issued Adonis with a .38 caliber pistol and live ammunitions.

Adonis is already facing a criminal case of illegal possession of firearms and an administrative one that is now in the hands of his station manager, Quinlog "Jun" Albino Jr.

Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro failed to get the side of Adonis or his legal counsel as of press time Wednesday. But earlier, the charges for indiscriminate firing were dropped and Adonis has already signed a waiver to remain under police custody.

Faster resolution

Meanwhile, Cervantes said another person has filed charges of public alarm and scandal against Adonis afternoon Wednesday at the City Prosecutor's Office.

"As of now, I am not yet aware kung ngano nag-file ug kaso nga public alarm and scandal pero akong hangyo lang nga mo-kalma ang tanan (why a case of public alarm and scandal was filed against Adonis but my plea to everyone is to calm down)," he said.

He cited how the airwaves are now filed with warring commentaries from dxIF Bombo Radyo and dxCC Radio Mindanao Network (RMN).

The secretary at the city fiscal confirmed the existence of a second case against Adonis on Wednesday. There are now moves to integrate the hearing and deliberation of the two cases for a faster resolution of the charges.

The three-member panel is composed of assistant city fiscals Lorimer Dilema Sr., Romualdo Banan and Marbella Olegario. All three were mum over the matters discussed during their panel deliberation.

Bagasin for his part said he has yet to talk to MIB commander Maj. Jimmy Abawag regarding the mission order the latter issued in favor of Adonis.

"But ang initial na narinig ko ay galing talaga sa MIB 'yong mission order but I will have to personally look into this matter and talk to Major Abawag," he said.

Admissible

Bagasin told this paper the MIB can issue mission orders to any person "in a case to case basis and as long as it will enhance their function."

"They (MIB) can also issue firearms in a case to case basis depending on the need to issue such firearm," he said.

Late Sunday evening, Barangay 27 tanods heard a gun shot at one of the KTV-bars in their area. They immediately alerted their councilor Reynaldo Polosan who immediately called the Cogon Police Precinct for some assistance.

Upon arriving at the scene, responding policemen Police Officers 3 Ramil Acero, Alfredo Suace and Catalino Poyatos Jr. arrested Adonis and recovered from him a .38 caliber pistol. The gun was still loaded with five live ammunitions when police seized it from the broadcaster. An empty shell was also recovered from the scene of the incident.

Cogon police precinct investigator Senior Police Officer 3 Heracleo Babanto said Adonis was drunk when he fired his unlicensed gun at 9:30 p.m in a KTV bar along A. Luna Extension.

The radio commentator only showed police officers a memorandum receipt and mission order from the 4th Military Intelligence Battalion (4th MIB), based at the 4th Infantry Division in Camp Evangelista, Patag this city.

Babanto said they did not honor the papers presented by Adonis as the law states that only permit to carry and license to possess firearms documents are admissible. (With reports from Pilgrim interns Rosalyn C. Baal and Matthew Estremadura)
