McDonald's breakfast customers get free Sun.Star everyday

MCDONALD'S customers now get more than the hot breakfast they crave for, they also get to read hot crispy news from Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro everyday.

McDonald's is serving breakfast customers with minimum single food purchase of P100 a free copy of the day's issue of Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro starting last July 12.

"This will be so everyday for the rest of the year," disclosed Edwin V. Abril, operations consultant for Mindanao of McDonald's.

Consistent with the aim of providing customers more value in serving them, Abril said McDonald's opted to offer breakfast customers free newspapers. "We are pleased Sun.Star was interested to support us," he said.

McDonald's breakfast customers in Davao, Cebu and soon Tagbilaran, Iloilo and Bacolod will also be served with Sun.Star issues as published in these places, according to Cerwin T. Eviota, PR agent of McDonald's for Vis'Min.

In Cagayan de Oro, McDonald's serves breakfast at its restaurants in Lim Ket Kai and Divisoria from the time the store opens until 10:30 in the morning.

Julius "Jay-Jay" Garcia Neri Jr., vice president for marketing of Sun.Star Publishing Inc., signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) for this arrangement last July 1 with Christian C. Eje, Abril's counterpart in Cebu who represented Rommel C. Ong, their operations manager for Vis'Min.

Ronald McDonald, chief happiness officer of the McDonald's chain, himself witnessed the MOU signing with Eviota, Grace Ybañez-Cañete and Anthony S. Onrejas. Cañete is the advertising and promotions manager of the Sun*Star Group, while Onrejas is its circulation manager.

"We are happy to have become partners with McDonald's in their initiative," remarked Neri. "And we are proud that McDonald's breakfast customers now get to be informed of the current events early in the day by the news we deliver."

Neri and Ong said they both look forward in pursuing other forms of collaboration beyond serving McDonald's breakfast customers with crispy Sun*Star copies.
